Founded in 1994 by John Waterhouse, Past Tents can add an air of authenticity to your outdoor activities, historical re-enactments, theatre, television, film sets, or a different dimension to your barbeques, exhibitions and promotions with our beautiful English made reproduction tents.

We hand make our quality tents, where possible with British materials, in our workshop in the heart of England. Currently we specialise in Medieval, Napoleonic, English Civil War and American Civil War designs, though we're open to suggestions as to other designs and periods, and often handle custom and bespoke work to order.

Our policy is to continue our research and to innovate and improve quality and design. Customer feedback is welcome and always very useful to help us make better tents.

Our patterns have been produced after considerable research and reference to period drawings and documentary evidence and our research continues. All our tents are made from the highest quality Grade A twelve and fourteen ounce cotton duck canvasses, sourced where possible from the British Isles, which are treated to be both water and rot resistant. We make all our tents in undyed, or coloured canvas as required and as an option offer flame retardant canvas at an additional cost.

Each tent comes ready to use with all ropes, spars, support poles and finials as well as hand cleft ash pegs, but because people's requirements differ, groundsheets are an additional item to order.

Based on an innovative design that eliminates the use of wall poles, the Past Tents pavilions can be erected in a fraction of the time needed for a conventional tent, the "cartwheel" support frame can be assembled in minutes, and when dismantled, can be stored in a surprisingly small spar bag.

Even the largest Pavilion can be transported by car, with the poles on the roof and the tent in the trunk. For many designs we offer the option of split poles allowing for a more compact storage and transportation.

And finally, if you have pictures of your Past Tents in action, we'd love to put the photos up on our website, to inspire others to spend a night under real canvas.

The Past Tents Team.
